Dancer and researcher Carmela Muñoz invites artist-researcher Anto Rodríguez to this gathering around her process Invocaciones boleras o la danza de las desposeídas (Bolero Invocations or the Dance of the Dispossessed).
Carmela Muñoz and Anto Rodríguez have been engaging in an epistolary writing practice as a way of accompanying one another, where theory and practice intertwine and blur. As part of Graner’s Diving program, they expand this practice and propose an “Infallible Manual for Summoning (Not).” Because, as Anto says, “Infallible has to do with not making mistakes, and we’re quite close to failure. I like manual because it’s close to manners, and to becoming mannered. And this is about crafting manners. A meeting, a contact point around the ways of doing what we do (is it researching?) so that the invocation might come to visit us.”
In this Diving#2, Carmela and Anto will get the forms to become mannered between disciplines, so that what we don’t yet know may arrive. They will be in residence together at Graner, opening up a space between Carmela’s work and Anto’s gaze and thinking.
Carmela is a resident selected through Graner’s public call for 2024–25, within the framework of the Barcelona Crea Grants – Creation Factories.
